Major Science and Space Discoveries

Posted on March 29, 2026 by mariospisis

Particle Physics Advances

CERN’s LHCb experiment confirmed the doubly charmed baryon Ξcc⁺ on March 17, featuring two charm quarks and one down quark with high significance. This resolves prior discrepancies and advances quark-gluon plasma studies.

Quantum & Materials

Researchers discovered a new quantum state in semimetal CeRu₄Sn₆, bridging quantum criticality and topology. Physicists also created an electron ‘catapult’ for ultra-fast particle movement.

Biology & Medical

On March 20, scientists grew the first lab oesophagus, successfully transplanted in animals to restore swallowing without immunosuppression. Antimatter transport over 5km by road tested stability for future applications.

Space Highlights

NASA’s Artemis 2 rocket returned to the launch pad, advancing crewed lunar missions. JWST imaged Neptune’s infrared auroras and interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS, revealing alien chemistry; a fast pulsar near Sagittarius A* tests relativity. A rare 10-billion-year-old supernova offers dark energy clues via gravitational lensing.
